Bay Tourism Association: Aiming for excellence.
Bay Tourism Association was originally founded over 24 years ago, during European Tourism Year, as the Lancaster and District Tourism Association by a group of hoteliers & restaurateurs. The LDTA introduced many initiatives including annual awards for members, access to training and networking events for tourism professionals.
In recent years, working with other tourism associations and organizations, it became a dynamic, proactive tourism marketing organisation and in December 2009, following a review of business activities and rebranding exercise, it relaunched as the Bay Tourism Association.
In March 2010 the association was joined by Morecambe Hoteliers’ Tourism Association in an affiliation of membership in order to improve and strengthen the wider representation for Morecambe and district within the brand.
Members are drawn from all strands of tourism related businesses, including accommodation, catering, retail, media, the arts, attractions, destinations and services. Almost all are from the private sector but not exclusively. Many of our members are from the public sector, e.g. Lancaster Castle and Priory, city parks, markets and museum services.
It exists primarily to represent the interests of its members and to actively promote, develop and support tourism and grow the visitor economy in North Lancashire as a whole and specifically in Lancaster, Morecambe, Carnforth and Lune Valley.
Member benefits include comprehensive website and communications facilities, lobbying, training, advice, recruiting and business networking dealing with shared problems and exchange of good practice.
There is an Executive Committee consisting of Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary plus ten others. The executive has specifically nominated representatives for Lancaster, Morecambe, Lune Valley and Carnforth. There are two non-voting co-opted officers representing Lancaster City Council Tourism Services and Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board.
The Executive meets at least once per quarter, often more frequently, and holds full membership open business and social meetings at intervals during the year. There is senior representation and consultancy at conferences, exhibitions and local government liaison and joint marketing and research initiatives by Executive nominees. Bay Tourism Association caters for visitors, tourists and residents. Essentially, it is an independent and comprehensive one-stop contact organisation for all matters relating to the visitor economy and tourism business in the North Lancashire catchment area.
